Do’s

- Treat your Septic Tank with high-quality bacteria monthly
- Use liquid detergents only
- Have all leaky fixtures in the home repaired
- Replace old appliances with water-efficient models
- Take shorter showers instead of baths
- Wash only full loads of dishes and clothes, and evenly distribute the loads over the week
Don'ts
- Pour cooking fats, oils, and greases into the trash
- Use excess amounts of detergent, bleach, or caustic drain cleaners that could kill the natural bacteria in the septic system
- Pour your liquid grease down the drain before washing pots and pans (wipe out congealed grease with a paper towel)
- Flush items down the toilet that are made to absorb
- Put a lot of fibrous or stringy fruits and vegetables down your disposal to fill your tank up more quickly
- Plant trees that grow large over the top of your Septic Tank or leach field
- Wash more than two clothes washer loads or dishwasher loads per day
